Caprylic Acid - A good saturated fatty acid.
Also known as octanoic acid, Caprylic Acid is a short to medium chain fatty acid (MCT) that is naturally found in many foods such as milk, butter, coconut or palm kernal oil. Caprylic Acid is one of the few saturated fatty acids that actually helps maintain good health. Eating foods rich in Caprylic Acid to increase your levels however is not recommended as they will also contain many other saturated fats and cholesterol. This is why it makes more sense to take it in supplement form.
Caprylic Acid is well known for its ability to fight Candida infections. When used in combination with coconut oil, oregano oil and a good probiotic it can be particularly useful. In many cases, using Caprylic Acid slows Candida growth dramatically and allows good bacteria to colonize your gastrointestinal tract. Although it is unclear exactly how Caprylic Acid works in fighting fungal infections, it is believed that due to its relatively short chain fatty acid, it is able to break down the protective structure around fungi and the lipid protective structure around some bacteria.
