Essiac Tea History

Our Essiac Tea is a 4 herb blend originally used by the nurse Rene Caisse to famously treat cancer during the 1930s and 40s. Rene Caisse was told about this mixture of herbs by a woman who had successfully treated herself for breast cancer after being shown a mix of herbs by an Ojibway native American.

Over a year later, Rene’s aunt was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. Rene had worked with her aunt's doctor before and asked his permission to use the herbal mixture she had learned about under his supervision. The doctor consented and Rene’s aunt lived another 21 years. Rene called this mixture of herbs Essiac - her surname spelt backwards.

Rene went on to work with a number of doctors treating many hundreds of patients at a clinic she ran in Bracebridge, Ontario, despite much opposition from the government and medical authorities.

Despite a lack of proper studies conducted into the efficacy of Essiac Tea to treat cancer, its individual constituents have undoubted medicinal properties.
